New Photo Shoot for 2012 - The Lord of the County
Thanks goes out to our Dad for being our latest model!
Jen recently realized that she hadn't captured her costume work properly (for her portfolio). This period-correct costume was based on a painting and I'm searching for a royalty free image to post here for comparison.
More images will surface in future AQ exhibitions, but here is a sneak peak. I think most would agree... Dad is debonair!

Jen and Bec are wrapping up projects initiated in 2008, so new ones vying for attention, can find their wings.
As we go through image files, we upload it to the web. You are invited to the new Fine Art site at:
Inspiration for January 2011..."Our Deepest Fear..."
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God (the Universe).
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God (the Universe) that is within us.
It's not just in some of us;
IT'S IN EVERYONE.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
-- Marianne Williamson (used in Nelson Mandela's 2003 speech)

Introducing Oshea...

"In the Eyes of Aurora" - Jennifer Christenson
Acrylic on Canvas 24" by 48" (2010)
`In the Eyes of the Aurora`
Hands reach thy trembling aura,
Soaking through skin and weary bone.
Its in the eyes of Aurora,
Beware, your heart is truly known.
A world apart from warmth and sight,
Glass encircling such careful dreams.
While opal facets bond in flight
Tale splits in seperate streams.
Butterfly wings of cryptic ice,
Etch patterns coldly by the sea.
Whilst velvet ribbons shall entice,
A twisting arrow from mighty tree.
Moonbeams stray across the snow,
Stars appear behind this light.
Gentle guardian stalking slow,
Bright are you feathered, on this night!
Stained window pains, o'er sky in day,
Enchant this falling winterscape.
And Soul is home where you may stay,
So peaceful under beauties cape.

Back to the Books -- Oonahnahmae Project in Focus
Jen's hard at work on plates for the Illustrated book. We each took the summer to regroup and determine our areas of focus. We love seeing what pops off the canvas and look forward to having it in book form to share.
New Photo Montage - First Body Painting Collaboration
Just posted this on YouTube (may be changed after confirmation from the musical artist - MIKA). "Happy Ending", to me, is an apt commentary of love in all its forms. I know what it's like to "love like it's forever, then spend the rest of our lives but not together."
This is a characterization of The Aquarian, Leyfe, who dances his way into the Aurora Borealis, as was his destiny...the link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEXq7DzNwoA

New Paintings (Summer 2010)!
Jen has been working on new AQ images, in addition to her comissioned projects. The paintings will be released individually, throughout the summer.
The Commission Process
Here is a behind the scenes look at Jen's process while developing portraits and commissioned pieces:
The first image shows the underpainting being developed to incorporate the photo still provided by the client.
The second image has increasing detail, after blocking in is complete. Facial features are studied.
In the two images below, layout is being added via layering paint. Facial likeness is further defined.
Depth, shadows, background details and additional fantasy elements are added in as completion nears.
Completed portrait below: All detail have been added, as well as finishing highlights.
The child sits peacefully in a beautiful garden, a waterfall trickles in background, with a loving guide to keep watch as she grows.
Jen's process is similar for all commissions. First, she consults with people and is provided with meaningful imagery. Second she considers who is commissioning her and what message is intended for the work (inspiration, healing, a memorial).
Here is another example, for a client whose beloved pet had passed:
Chalk pencils are a timeless medium, in addition to being economical. Jen can complete this in two sittings.
And finally, a traditional commission with very specific parameters:
This acrylic on canvas was small to accommodate the client's budget.
May Day
May Day is known to be opposite All Hallows, the veil between worlds is supposedly thinnest at these times. Dreaming seems more tangible and connections to source abound -- seeing the budding trees and hearing the bird-songs.
On May 1st, I spent the entire day watching live performances of dance and song. I was filled with a sense of joyful celebration and uplifting emotion. Thanks to those artist's contributions and work on their craft.
I have also been inspired lately by crystallization mandalas and research on Lake Vostok. If you don't know what that is...Google won't disappoint! It is one of, if not the largest, fresh water lake in the world. Comparable to Lake Superior's volume, but located deep within Antarctic ice.
"The Library" - refers to the stored information in the core samples under study...and the shocking new (and somewhat hidden) findings. Don't take my text for it...The universe is a magnificent library for all with a seeker's heart.

"Aes-Silem"
I think this picture is stunning!
I don't want to ruin it with too many words;
romantic, warm, feminine, capable, prepared...

Thank you Melissa.

Aquarian Creations Inc. 2008
We're showcasing this lovely Lady during another Ostara season! She's so beautiful and has not been seen by nearly enough people, nor has she been in the right location (yet!) She will eventually be honoured on her own wall in our; pub / atrium / dance & healing centre and....lest we forget...Gallery facility! A.K.A. The Aquarian Inspiration Centre for the Great Round!
Aquarians featured:
Famik (The Queen of Oak)
Eli Xyre (Bursting forth)
Josephine VanDeKirk (at rest beneath sheltering branches).
The Liberalia was a women's Freedom Festival in ancient Rome...Ostara another tied to this time of year; the Hare, eggs and fertility, new growth and light...Spring is here (hear)...the birds are twitterpated as well as people.
October 2008 - The Birth of Aesha-Tan
Bec and Jen collaborated recently with their cousin Natasha. We have been playing dress-up for years, but Natasha is a new addition. She seemed to forever be the little girl trying to keep up with the older "Sisters". It is our turn to look at her in awe!
Natasha shared numerous song collaborations with us and composed a tune for The Aquarian Philosophy...which has been looping in our heads ever since! More on that later...
This shoot felt like a turning point for all of us and we all saw the beautiful woman Natasha has become. The serendipitous movement in the sky, was a perfect and random backdrop (for ten minutes). As Natasha's nose reddened, I endevoured to capture the energies at play!
This Siren will inspire further transformation of The Great Round!

Jen did the body art and draping for the shoot (tea-dying silk and such), as well as fabricating the headpiece from backyard willows. Inspiration was her 2007 painting:
"Awakening the Chakra Tree". - Oil on Canvas (4' by 6')
This character was without a name until Natasha came on board. Her embodiment inspired Aesha-Tan.
It is so amazing to see The Aquarians come to life one person at a time! We hope to set up the Art Department by the time the films go into pre-production. Each shoot challenges Jen and I in ways we'd not anticipated, encouraging us to stay present; sunsets, time crunches, etc. I will be posting some digital collages from this shoot and others (in Sirens & Swords Online).
The Making of a Tree Goddess
Thanks Cuz! Looking forward to visiting you in LA this winter!
No red noses there...we hope.
